Jastrab krahulec žije v pomerne malom počte na celom našom území v lesoch.

Živí sa drobnými cicavcami. Pri love prichádza za vrabcami často aj do ľudských sídlisk. Potravu chytá prevažne vo vzduchu. Lieta veľmi obratne, málokedy krúži a len zriedka sa trepotá na mieste. Loví pernatú zver. Na korisť sa prudko vrhá a často ju prenasleduje. Chytá ju prevažne vo vzduchu.

Dostal prívlastok malý bojovník s veľkým srdcom.

Meria 28 – 38 cm, rozpätie krídel dosahuje 60-75 cm. Je stály, aj túlavý, alebo sťahovavý. Hniezda si krahulce stavajú na mladých ihličnanoch, len výnimočne sa zabývajú na listnatom strome. Často sa im do stavebných prác nechce, vtedy radšej obsadia prázdne hniezdo po iných vtákoch alebo aj vevericiach.

Na zimu k nám prilietajú väčšinou severské populácie. Samička znáša v máji cca 4 – 5 vajec, na ktorých sedí 32-33 dní.

Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus)

The sparrowhawk lives in relatively small numbers throughout our territory in forests.

It feeds on small mammals. When hunting, it often comes for sparrows even into human settlements. It catches its prey mainly in the air. It flies very agilely, rarely circles, and only occasionally hovers in place. It hunts feathered game. It dives sharply at its prey and often pursues it. It mainly catches it in the air.

It has been given the nickname „little warrior with a big heart.“

It measures 28 – 38 cm, with a wingspan of 60-75 cm. It is resident, also wandering, or migratory. Sparrowhawks build their nests on young conifers, only exceptionally do they settle on deciduous trees. They often do not want to engage in building work, preferring to occupy an empty nest left by other birds or even squirrels.

In winter, mostly northern populations arrive to us. The female lays about 4 – 5 eggs in May, which she incubates for 32-33 days.
