About the forest school

LESY SR š.p. established the first Forest School in Slovakia in their branch plant in Levice. The establishment of the Forest School is part of a cross-border project with Hungarian foresters from IpolyErdö. Together they launched a project to build a unique Forest School of the Branch Plant in Levice. The forest school is located directly in the town of Levice.

The aim of the cross-border project “Foresters for raising public environmental awareness” in the call of the Interreg VA Slovak Republic-Hungary Cooperation Program is to support the interest of the inhabitants of the Levice region and Salgótarján Hungary in the unique natural values of the common border area by building and developing original region.

The Forest School is an excursion – cognitive operation for kindergartens, schools and the public, accompanied by Forest School professionals.

The concept of operation is based on excursions, demonstrations, practical work in the workshop, tactile and visual demonstration of surfaces or samples of forest elements. Preparations for forest animals, which children will be able to see within the interior equipment of the primary school, make it possible to get to know the game. An important part of the interior is the part that brings the history of forestry.

The function of the object allows to get to know the forest even when it is not possible to go there. It also aims to show children in a playful way what the forest hides and what it contains throughout the year.

In the interior there is a diorama room on the first floor, a drawing room, a creative workshop, on the first floor an educational / conference room and a cognitive room.

In the exterior there is a mini-workshop, a children’s playground with various natural attractions, a sundial, an ancestral tree.

This project brings the forest among the people and offers additional education for all interested parties. Children and the general public are most welcome.
